Where to Take Dance Classes for Adults in NoVA

Lace up your dancing shoes and get moving at these area classes.

If you’re interested in trying your hand at learning a new style of dance, or perhaps just want to get moving, check out these schools that offer dance classes for adults. There are options from salsa to ballet to hip-hop that are sure to get you on your feet in no time.

Arthur Murray Dance Centers Alexandria

Arthur Murray Dance Centers stem from the country’s second oldest franchise organization, Arthur Murray International, LLC. The dance studios and centers continue a 100-year tradition teaching dance. There are singles and couples’ offerings, salsa dance lessons, competitive dance, wedding prep, and more. 3223 Duke St., Ste. B1, Alexandria

AVA Dance Company

Founded by former professional dancer Leah Mariner, the company offers a place for adult dancers to share their passion. There are drop-in options like hip-hop, jazz, and contemporary, as well as specialty classes and series in technique and pro training. There’s also a five-hour summer dance intensive for one day only (check AVA’s Instagram for more information on dates). Classes are at the Dance Academy of VA, Gold’s Gym, and pop-up options are at Onelife Fitness on Capitol Hill in D.C. Multiple area locations

Virginia Ballet Company and School

The Virginia Ballet Company and School offers adult classes for ages 18 and up. All skill levels are welcome for sessions in ballet, modern, jazz, tap, ballroom, flamenco, and beginning and intermediate pointe. Relax post-class with options like Pilates and stretching. 5595 Guinea Rd., Fairfax

Born 2 Dance

Born2Dance was founded nearly 20 years ago by dance artist Azin Mahoozi Shalan, who specializes in Middle Eastern dance. The studio has programs for both adults and children, with styles including sensual dance, K-pop, and belly dancing. Workshops, intensives, and summer camps are also available. 262 Cedar Ln. Dance Academy of Virginia

Fun, high-energy classes for adults include hip-hop, BarreFit, ballet, and Broadway tap and jazz. Founder and CEO Katherine Horrigan founded the academy during COVID and has expanded it from two studio rooms to two facilities with seven studios. DC DanceSport Academy

A dance studio specializing in Latin and ballroom, DC DanceSport Academy is run by Lydia Petrigova, an internationally accredited performer and adjudicator.
