After spring break, students may need a little extra help getting back in the swing of things academically as the end of the school year approaches. Luckily, there are plenty of free online study and tutoring resources available to provide support. Here are some resources that students can access through school or the public library.
Alexandria
The Alexandria Public Library has many options for homework help and research. There’s Brainfuse HelpNow; Brightstorm, which offers study resources in several subjects; Mango and Transparent Language for foreign languages; and Peterson’s Test Prep and Khan Academy to get ready for big tests.
ACPS students in grades six through 12 can access free tutoring 24/7 online through their Canvas accounts. There are 67 subjects available for tutoring help, including 15 AP courses.
Arlington
The Arlington Library similarly has access to Brainfuse HelpNow for study help, where students can connect with a live tutor any time from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Arlington Public Schools also offers tutoring resources through Paper, an online academic support tool for students in grades six through 12. It provides writing feedback, a live chat, and more.
Fairfax County
The Fairfax County Public Library provides several free resources to help students study and learn. There’s Brainfuse HelpNow, which provides homework help, a writing lab, and skills-building help; Mango, for help with foreign language learning; The Jefferson Lab, for SOL prep; and Khan Academy.
Plus, Fairfax County Public Schools provides all students from kindergarten to 12th grade with free online tutoring through Varsity Tutors.
Loudoun County
Through a Virginia Department of Education initiative called All In VA, Loudoun County Public Schools offers free, on-demand tutoring resources through Varsity Tutors to all students from kindergarten through 12th grade.
At the Loudoun County Public Library, there’s Brainfuse HelpNow, plus Transparent Language for supplemental language resources.
Did you know? Several NoVA, DC, and Maryland library systems allow residents in reciprocal jurisdictions to get library cards for free, even outside of their home county. That means that if you live or work in Fairfax County, for example, you can take advantage of the library resources in Loudoun, Arlington, Alexandria, and more.
