You don’t have to go far or spend a ton to have a great spring break with the kids. Here’s how to spend the day in Baltimore, conveniently located roughly an hour away from NoVA, without breaking the bank.

10 a.m.: Head to Port Discovery (35 Market Place), a children’s museum featuring plenty of interactive exhibits to occupy school-aged children. This spring, the museum has an exhibit called “Here We Grow” that teaches kids about agriculture and where their food comes from. // Tickets: $14.95 for ages 2 and up

Noon: Take a lunch break at Phillips Seafood (601 E. Pratt St.). In addition to the city’s signature crab cakes, the restaurant offers kid-friendly options like chicken fingers and grilled cheese.

1 p.m.: Visit the National Aquarium (501 E. Pratt St.). Be sure to check out Shark Alley, a ring-shaped exhibit that feels like you’re swimming with the aquarium’s five types of sharks. // Tickets: ages 3-11: $24.95; ages 12+: $39.95

3 p.m.: Walk to the Maryland Science Center (601 Light St.) and play with the hands-on exhibits that teach children science in a fun, memorable way, like the Dinosaur Mysteries exhibit, which lets kids “meet T. rex and Astrodon face to face.” // Tickets: ages 3-12: $16.95; 13+: $20.95

5 p.m.: Round out the day with a trip to The Best of Luck (601 E. Pratt St.), a candy and ice cream shop in the heart of the Inner Harbor.

The kids will have so much fun, they won’t even realize how much they’re learning.
