1. Reston Town Center Holiday Parade
Nov. 27 // Join the town of Reston for the annual holiday parade Nov. 27 from 8 a.m.-10 p.m. The morning starts with the Gingerbread Man Mile for kids of all ages, a parade filled with Macy’s-style balloons, music and marching bands followed later with a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus. /restontowncenter.com

2. Mount Vernon in 3-D Then & Now

Through Nov. 20 // Mount Vernon has recently opened a new photography exhibit featuring a display of 3-D photographs that allows you to compare today’s Mount Vernon to the Mount Vernon of George Washington’s time. / mountvernon.org

3. Enchantment Theatre Company Presents ‘Peter Rabbit Tales’

Nov. 1 // The Hylton Performing Arts Center hosts the Enchantment Theatre Company as it celebrates the 150th anniversary of Beatrix Potter with the adventurous story of the beloved Peter Rabbit. Come relive this childhood tale filled with masks, puppets and even original music. / hyltoncenter.org

4. Partisans Among Playmates: American Childhood and the Civil War
Nov. 3 & 10 // Manassas Museum presents an exhibit displaying how children took part in the Civil War and its dramatic aftermath. This exhibition focuses on both sides of the war from the children up in the North to the slave children in the South./ visitmanassas.org

5. Herndon Children’s Performing Art Series

Nov. 2 // At the local Herndon Community Center, young children will enjoy the puppet performance of “Dragon Feathers,” a story based on people from a far away land and their ludicrous adventures. / herndon-va.gov

6. Indiana Jones and the Adventure of Archaelogy

7. Reston’s Zoo Boo
Oct. 31-Nov. 1 // The Reston Zoo presents Zoo Boo, a four-day affair of Halloween activities such as a trick-or-treat trail, pumpkin patch, tractor rides and more for kids of all ages. / restonzoo.com

8. ‘Playing By Air’

9. Donuts with Santa
Nov. 28 // Just in time for the holidays, Santa, Mrs. Claus and their helpers will read stories and have sing-a-longs with a side of doughnuts each Saturday morning, starting Nov. 28 through Dec. 19. Participants are encouraged to bring their cameras to remember these special moments. / workhousearts.org

10. Ralph’s World

Oct. 10 // Jammin Java presents indie rocker and children’s author Ralph Covert as he performs an interactive live set with his full band. Covert’s music has been recognized all over, and he is coming out with his very own television show.
