Desserts in Northern Virginia

While licking ice cream cones in front of an old-school stand will never lose its timeless appeal, there are plenty of new players on the dessert scene. Ice cream is now frozen and scraped into rolls of icy sheets. Milkshakes come with a shot of booze or decorated in everything from popcorn to cheeseburgers (they don’t call them freakshakes for nothing). Waffles are turned inside out—bubbles instead of pockets—and wrapped around ice cream. There’s even room for organic, vegan and gluten-free dessert options.

From snow cream to honey toast, here’s a guide to all the desserts you need to know.
