Fredericksburg’s Huntley didn’t need any help as he sailed through the first Live round on The Voice this week with his energetic rendition of The Beatles’ “With a Little Help from My Friends.”
“Last year I was contemplating on being a substitute teacher and now I’m here,” Huntley said Tuesday, while he was still waiting to find out he was saved by the audience.
The dad, 33, dedicated his performance to his mom, who he said helps him take care of his children.
Huntley’s performance again impressed the celebrity coaches on the show. “Whenever I see you, I feel like you’re already a pro,” said John Legend after Monday’s Live round. “Every time you come out here, you just nail it.”
His own coach, Niall Horan, said, “Huntley is my charismatic powerhouse.”
But it was the audience that was making the decisions about which contestants would advance this time. The audience was able to vote for its favorite singer after the performances, for the first time this season. Nine of the 12 finalists will move on to the next round, including Huntley.
The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays on NBC.
