Maybe you caught Jimmy Fallon‘s show in February, where Chris Pratt and Colin Farrell joined the host donning large orb-like bubbles on their upper halves as they kicked soccer balls into elevators. (No? Then see below.)
Now, you too can join in the latest fitness wave hitting America. The game of bubble soccer, a sport that is played with bubble suits which are a little over 13 pounds and made of thick wrapped plastic, can be found at the Gold’s Gym ETC Center in Woodbridge.
New leagues are forming in the D.C. area, calling on those willing to showcase their athletic prowess while encased in a giant balloon.
A product of the U.K., bubble soccer is a fun, demanding and physical activity, where participants run up and down a rubber court, bouncing into each other with their bubble suits, launching themselves at the game ball—think soccer mixed with sumo wrestling. Participants can knock into the stands and turn upside down, their legs flailing in the air. The rules are the same as soccer, which makes it easy to pick up and play.
This game isn’t exclusive to Gold’s Gym members; you can rent the space for private parties and play bubble soccer while listening to pop dance music from the sound system hanging overhead.
Whether you are seeking your company’s next “team-building” exercise or harbor the desire to become the Pele of inflatable athletics, this new ‘It’ sport could be for you.
