99 Ranch Market
Sure , you’ve shopped at the local hot spot Super H Mart, but after the Asian grocery store moved out of its 54,000-square-foot space on Fairfax Boulevard to a 60,000-square-foot location (and former Giant) at Jermantown Road, the move opened up the opportunity for a newcomer in town: 99 Ranch Market. The alternate Asian grocery store placed renovation permits for its first Northern Virginia space in October, and the grocery store will feature a food court, with up to six vendors ranging from hot sandwiches to specialty drinks. // 99 Ranch Market: 10780 Fairfax Blvd., Fairfax; Opening planned for 2020, specific date TBA
With the abundance of fitness locations in Northern Virginia, we lack the opportunity to claim that our New Year’s resolutions won’t hold up. If you’re looking for a new style of workout to mix up your current routine, the national Pilates brand Club Pilates recently opened its newest Northern Virginia location in Alexandria. Classes include Joseph Pilates’ original Contrology Method with group classes and equipment, as well as barre, Exo Chair, Bosu balls, mats, rollers and more. Design Within Reach
In late October 2019, it was announced that Design Within Reach would be opening its first Northern Virginia location at the Leesburg Corner Premium Outlets. The 10,800-square-foot store and showroom features furniture and home goods from the Connecticut-based company (which also has a store in Washington, DC) and give frequent shoppers at the outlets in Loudoun County the opportunity to get their hands on trendy furniture without the travel time. // Design Within Reach: 241 Fort Evans Road NE, Leesburg; Opened on Dec. 14
This state-of-the-art entertainment facility, according to the website, is almost ready to offer NoVA residents up to 16,000 square feet of food, drinks and fun. There will be a 5,500-square-foot, two-story laser tag area themed as “Battle for DC,” as well as Hologate virtual reality stations, dozens of arcade games and over two dozen televisions broadcasting your favorite sports and live events. Don’t miss your chance to catch a sneak preview on what’s to come in 2020 with the New Year’s Eve Preview Party on Tuesday, Dec. 31, starting at noon. Get Air Trampoline Park
There’s a good chance you’ve taken your kids to a local trampoline park in Northern Virginia. They can bounce, play and energize the day away at the newest Get Air location in Alexandria, the national brand’s first in the commonwealth. Heart + Paw
A luxury-level pet care facility is in the works for Ballston Quarter. Heart + Paw, which has not yet announced an opening date but is expected in early 2020, is a destination for owners and pets who are looking for veterinary services, a grooming spa or low-stress day care. Jimmy Potters Ceramics & Art Studio
In the former “Painting with a Twist” space in Ashburn (at the intersection of Claiborne Parkway and Broadlands Boulevard), the local ceramics and art studio is opening a new outpost in Loudoun County, and branching out from its original location in Fairfax. The brand allows attendees to create their own ceramic pieces and pottery with pottery wheels, as well as sculpt with clay and paint pre-made pottery. Let your kids create their very own masterpieces at this soon-to-be art studio in Ashburn. The kid-inspired location holds art classes, day camps and birthday parties for children ages 18 months to 12 years old. The fridge-worthy art they create will help them learn basic art concepts, techniques and skills, as well as let out their creativity and build their confidence in all new ways. As of late December, the franchise owners Meera and Nishil Patel are still searching for a local site. // Location and opening date yet to be scheduled
A new place for kid- and adult-friendly entertainment is coming to Fredericksburg in 2020. Reclaim Arcade is bringing a retro-modern style of entertainment through arcade games from the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s, as well as self-pour beer, wine and cider taps. The venue will be taking over the former CoWork Fredericksburg space, which had its last official day on Dec. 20. When Reclaim Arcade completes its updates and renovations to the space, it plans to have at least 30 taps with wine, beer and cider, and more than 50 arcade games and pinball machines. // Reclaim Arcade: 2324 Plank Road (Route 3), Fredericksburg; Opening planned for 2020, specific date TBA
Northern Virginia may have its fair share of yoga studios, but that hasn’t kept national brands from popping up across the region. With two locations coming to NoVA (Burke and Ashburn), YogaSix is staking its claim. The boutique fitness studio will offer six different class types (note the company’s name), from “hot and powerful” to “slow and mindful,” according to the website.
