Massanutten Resort Announces Plan for New Hotel, Expanded Indoor Water Park

The Shenandoah Valley resort will build a five-story hotel and expand its waterpark by early 2026.

By Maggie Roth May 1, 2024 at 11:54 am

Massanutten Resort has announced plans to construct a brand-new five-story hotel and expand its indoor water park, the first phase in what will be a yearslong master plan to expand the resort’s offerings.

“We are excited to embark on a transformative journey that will truly redefine the guest experience at Massanutten Resort,” said Steve Krohn, president and chief executive officer of the Resorts Companies. “Our commitment to providing unparalleled hospitality experiences remains unwavering, and this expansion underscores our dedication to innovation and guest satisfaction.”

Massanutten is a 6,000-acre mountain resort in the Shenandoah Valley with amenities that include 12 on-site dining locations, two golf courses, a spa, ziplining, skiing, hiking, tubing, and mountain biking. The resort now has an indoor-outdoor water park with features like a lazy river, multiple pools and slides, and a FlowRider Endless Wave.

The new hotel planned for the resort will be five stories tall with 144 guest rooms, including king and double queen rooms, themed king bunk rooms, and two- and three-bedroom suites. Other features include a 6,500-square-foot atrium with a bar and breakfast area connecting to the waterpark complex, a patio, a board room, and an event space.

Massanutten will also implement two expansions to the indoor water park. There will be a 22,000-square-foot expansion with new attractions including an adult pool, mat racer slide, bar, cabanas, kids’ pool and slides, a wave pool, and a family raft ride.

In addition, there will be a 6,000-square-foot addition attached to the new hotel.

The new hotel and water park expansion will help resort staff manage capacity by reducing sellout dates and making it easier to accommodate large groups. The resort will have an additional 300 parking spaces.

The resort anticipates the construction will begin in spring 2024, and the projects will be complete by fall 2025 or early 2026.

These updates are the first phase of a larger master plan to update the four-season resort and expand its offerings, including the eventual introduction of a “55+ active adult lifestyle community.”
