Fairfax County police said a man wanted in connection with a murder at Burke Lake Park campgrounds has been arrested in Paterson, New Jersey.
Rami El Sayed faces second-degree murder charges for the killing of Cara Abbuscato, 40, of Fairfax. Park managers at the campgrounds on Ox Road in Fairfax Station found her body in a makeshift tent Saturday after the group that was supposed to use the space saw the tent. The police said she had been stabbed in the upper body.
Evidence in the tent led police to ask the community about the tent and El Sayed. The two had known each other about a week to 10 days, police said.
Abbuscato’s car was not at the campground, so Fairfax County police entered it into a license plate recognition system, and police in New Jersey let them know the car was found in Paterson, The Washington Post reported.
Paterson police stopped El Sayed at a traffic light and took him into custody early Monday morning.
Fairfax County police are still looking for information about this incident and about the tent that was in the campgrounds from September 19 to September 30. Anyone with information may call the Major Crimes Bureau at 703-246-7800, option 2.
