On the Market: A Cozy and Modest Home in an Oakton Golfing Community

A functional floor plan and subtly charming design result in a home you can make your own.

By Maggie Roth November 7, 2022 at 4:44 pm

When searching for a home, there’s a precarious line to walk between dull, cookie-cutter monotony and over-the-top design choices that might overwhelm your personal style. You want a house that has some character built in, but not so much that you have to fight to make it your own. 3715 Center Way in Oakton’s Penderbrook community is one property that walks that line well.

The single-family home, built in 1988 and recently renovated, has a subtle, timeless look in both its brick façade and its rich hardwood interior, while its layout and abundance of windows give it an undeniable sense of character.

The home has four bedrooms and four-and-a-half bathrooms, totaling just over 4,300 square feet. Its placement in the golf course community comes with lots of amenities, including access to the golf club, a pool, and tennis courts. The current list price is $975,000.

The living area’s design is understated, yet packs in a lot of character with the warm hardwood floors and big windows facing out to the back patio. A simple, unadorned mantle (accentuated by subtle marble-style tiling) holds a gas fireplace at the front of the room, and a doorway to the right opens to the adjacent dining area.

Rather than an open layout, this dining room is tucked into its own space between the kitchen and the living room. That allows for easy movement between the three spaces but still makes for a cozy, secluded area to sit and eat.

In the kitchen, a copper range hood serves as a visual focal point in the classic space, accentuating the wood cabinets and quartz countertops. Just past the kitchen peninsula is a second living area that opens out to the backyard.

To bring a sense of cohesion between the upper and lower levels, the same rich hardwood floors are featured upstairs. This primary bedroom has a slanted ceiling and a view of the tree-filled backyard, and connects to an en suite bathroom and a large walk-in closet.

The huge, white-tiled jet tub makes the primary bathroom an ideal space for relaxation. The room also features a separate glass-walled shower and a spacious double vanity.
