There are locations of Wagamama in 27 countries. Though the chain was born in London, there are now “bowl to soul” noodle spots from Austria to the UAE, to, well, the United States. Currently, there are restaurants in Atlanta, New York, and Boston. Those big cities will be joined by Arlington this summer, according to a news release.
Our region’s first Wagamama will open in a 5,100-square-foot space. According to Eater DC, that location was most recently filled by Australian-themed establishment Oz. With its roster of noodle bowls from founder Alan Yau, now also known as the man behind Hakkasan and Yauatcha, Wagamama is likely a better bet for success. Though final menus will not be announced until closer to opening, diners can bet on ramen, craft cocktails, and shareables like dumplings and steamed buns, all inspired by Japanese, Chinese, and Korean flavors.
“We couldn’t be more excited to open our first location in Northern Virginia and introduce Wagamama to Clarendon and the entire Washington, DC, region,” Richard Flaherty, co-CEO of Wagamama USA, said in the release. “Our modern, pan-Asian cuisine will fit right in with the dynamic international community of the DC area. We look forward to bringing the elevated, high energy Wagamama experience to the Clarendon neighborhood this summer.”
