History Buff
When I was in school, history was one of my favorite subjects. I always loved learning about different events and people that made an impact in our lives today. Growing up in the DMV, I have been lucky to be surrounded by historical buildings and battlefields. This Thursday, instead of watching a documentary, I have decided to combine my daily walk with a local history lesson at Huntley Meadows. Grabbing a Slice
I’m not one for the ceremony of the holidays. In fact, I traveled abroad to countries that don’t celebrate Thanksgiving the last two years. That’s why I’m not waiting until the big day to eat some darn pie. This list has all the options that I need. I’m leaning toward Candy Cane Hot Chocolate from Cakes by Happy Eatery, but there are so many great choices that I might just make more than one stop. – Alice Levitt, food editor/critic
Getting Ready for Some Roller Coasters
When this pandemic hit waaaaay back in March, it did not occur to me that I’d have to cancel our long-planned trip to Walt Disney World in September. Surely things would be better by the fall. You all know how this story turns out. While the Orlando theme park has re-opened, we decided to skip the September trip and dream about heading there in 2021. But, as an admitted theme park addict, it’s tough to wait another year. So I was thrilled when Kings Dominion here in Virginia announced it would finally reopen for a holiday celebration. It kicks off Dec. 5, but I’m going to get our tickets ASAP, and start mapping out all the seasonal fun (roller coasters! popcorn! souvenirs!) we’ll have. – Katie Bianco, editor // Kings Dominion: Taste of the Season; tickets from $45
