Dr. Anthony Fauci to throw the opening pitch at Nats season opener

The Washington Nationals will finally take to the field this week on Thursday, July 23 for Opening Day. And, with a nod to the COVID-19 era and the heroic efforts of front-line workers, Dr. Anthony Fauci will throw out the ceremonial first pitch.

Fauci, who is the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, is a “Nats super fan,” according to a recent press release sent out by the Washington Nationals. Fauci is also often photographed wearing a Nats-themed face mask.

Stated the team: “Dr. Fauci has been a  true champion for our country during the COVID-19 pandemic and throughout his distinguished career, so it is only fitting that we honor him as we kick off the 2020 season and defend our World Series Championship title.”

The Opening Day game will begin at 7:08 p.m., and can be watched on ESPN. For more information, visit mlb.com/nationals.
