Keep kids reading all summer long with the Washington Nationals

The team’s seventh annual summer reading program has kicked off virtually, with seven DMV-based libraries participating, and the return of Sean Dolittle as the program’s ambassador.

Reading can be fun, especially for kids and their colorful and vibrant imaginations. But sometimes encouraging your child to practice reading can lead to frustration, especially during the summertime, unless you call for backup.

For the seventh year, you can encourage your child to get reading all summer long with the help of the Washington Nationals. The team’s summer reading program kicked off last week, with participating libraries across the DMV.

To avoid the “summer slide” that kids may have due to being out of school, the program encourages children to get connected with their local library and join the summer reading challenge for their age group.

This year’s program has expanded to include D.C. Public Library, Arlington County Library, Prince George’s County Memorial Public Library, Montgomery County Library, Fairfax County Library, Loudoun County Library, Alexandria City Library and Nats On Base Military Libraries.

All children ages 6 to 18 will have the opportunity to win tickets to see the World Series Champions play at home at an upcoming game when signing up through their library of choice here.

For the third year in a row, the team’s book-lover and pitcher Sean Dolittle is back as the Summer Reading program ambassador. Find his book recommendations, as well as some other fun activities, in his virtual activity book.

For additional children’s book recommendations, check out our recent interview with Fairfax County Public Library staff (with over 30 to choose from!), and stay tuned in with your local library on social media.
