Here are 9 ways to help clean up NoVA parks this month

Plan a few hours out of your week to help clean up a local park with family, friends and neighbors this fall.

Ever wonder how local parks stay so pristine? Well, they do it with the help of volunteers.

Interested in donating your time to local parks? Across Northern Virginia, parks are welcoming the fall season and cooler temperatures with cleanup events through November. Litter and debris can pile up after busy summer months, and it’s time to ensure the parks are ready for fall and the upcoming winter season.

Check out the upcoming cleanup events, below.

Watershed Cleanup Days in Fairfax County
Bring the whole family for a trash scavenger hunt and fill your trash bag with discarded items to freshen up low-lying areas, avoid waterway blockages and protect local wildlife. Volunteers can sign up beforehand online and will be provided with gloves, bags and other accessories for trash and debris pick up.

Huntley Meadows Park: 3701 Lockheed Blvd., Alexandria; 9 to 11:30 a.m.
Lake Accotink Park: 7500 Accotink Park Road, Springfield; 9 a.m. to noon
Lake Fairfax Park: 1400 Lake Fairfax Drive, Reston; 9 a.m. to noon
Riverbend Park: 8700 Potomac Hills St., Great Falls; 10 a.m. to noon
Scott’s Run Nature Preserve: 7400 VA-193, McLean; 9 to 11:30 a.m.

Friday, Oct. 18
Providence RECenter: 7525 Marc Drive, Falls Church; 9 to 11 a.m.

Saturday, Oct. 19
Ellanor C. Lawrence Park: 5040 Walney Road, Chantilly; 9 to 10:30 a.m.

Saturday, Nov. 2
South Lakes Drive Park: South Lakes Drive, Reston; 9 a.m. to noon
