Sunflower season is starting in Northern Virginia. In NoVA, you have great options, whether you want some fresh flowers to brighten your day or a fun day with the family. Here are farms where you can finish off your summer with blooming flowers.

Great Country Farms

July 11 to August 14, open daily 10 a.m.–5 p.m.

During July and August, you can cut your own sunflowers for $1 a stem or add on a mini bucket with 20 cut-your-own stems. Bring your own clippers. Want another sunflower experience? Book a seat at Bluemont Vineyard’s Sunflower Brunch or Dinner. 18780 Foggy Bottom Rd., Bluemont, $13-$15 for adults, $11-$13 for kids 3–17 and seniors

Burnside Farms

July 12 to August 9, times vary

Nestled in pastoral Nokesville, Burnside Farms plants over 30 varieties of “cutting” sunflowers on more than 70 acres of land. Tickets are required to enter the fields — three stems are included with your ticket — and there are several picking times. Prices vary by time of day. On Saturday evenings, the farm hosts its Summer Saturday Concert Series, featuring live music and sunset views. 11008 Kettle Run Rd., Nokesville, $15–$18.50 ages 5 and younger, free

Hollin Farms

July, Wednesdays through Sundays, times vary

Although known for its extensive selection of fruits and vegetables, the family-run Hollin Farms also grows beautiful zinnias and sunflowers to pick. You can check the website, which is updated twice a week, for the latest availability reports. Sunflowers are $1 a stem and zinnias are 50 cents a stem. 1524 Snowden Rd., Delaplane

Braehead Farm

July through September, open daily 9 a.m.–6 p.m.

At Braehead Farm, the rules are pretty simple. There are no reservations and no admission to the fields, you just pay for what you pick, with sunflowers priced at $1.50 a bloom. 1130 Tyler St., Fredericksburg
