A musical about Loudoun County’s Will Robinson, a 17-year-old who committed suicide in January, 2016, has received sponsorship from mars candy heiress Jacqueline Mars and will take to the Kennedy Center Terrace Theater stage Nov. 19. The performance intends to spark conversation among teens about accepting one another, depression and suicide prevention.

An FBI news release has revealed that violent crime has increased nationwide for the second year in a row. Statewide, Virginia has also seen an increase in violent crime, with Northern Virginia areas like Manassas, Stafford, Loudoun, Fairfax and Prince William counties also seeing growing numbers. Due a drop in its number of robberies and assaults, Alexandria’s violent crime reports have decreased overall, but Alexandria did see an increase in the number of murders.

The Rappahannock Area YMCA broke ground for a new outdoor tennis facility, to be named after two-time Special Olympics tennis gold medalist John Fried, on Monday. Construction of the five-court facility, which hopes to host matches in March, will begin in October.
