If your father is the type of person who values experiences over ties, shoes and mugs, then these classes could make his Father’s Day weekend unforgettable. Whether he has always wanted to spend more time expressing his artistic side or has often wished that he was more adept in the kitchen, the following classes and workshops can awaken any hidden talents.

Cooking Class

Sterling-based Cookology is holding several cooking classes on Father’s Day, including a 21-plus sports bar-themed class perfect for dads. Students will learn how to make ribs, homemade barbecue sauce, onion rings, blue cheese dressing and chicken wings. They’ll be able to taste-test their creation and sip beer during the process. Can’t make it this weekend? Cookology holds plenty more classes throughout the year that aren’t dad-specific but could still be tailored to his interests. // 21100 Dulles Town Circle, Sterling

Flying Lessons

For dads who have always wanted to test out their piloting skills, Aviation Adventures and American Helicopters both offer educational flight lessons based out of Manassas Regional Airport. Lessons are taking place all Father’s Day weekend and should be reserved in advance. // Manassas Regional Airport: 10600 Harry J. Parrish Blvd., Manassas

Painting Classes

Pinot’s Palette will host painting classes at both of its locations in Tysons and Dulles this Father’s Day weekend with complimentary wine and beer for those 21 and older. // Pinot’s Palette Tysons: 2750 Gallows Road, Vienna; Pinot’s Palette Dulles: 12976 Highland Crossing Drive, Suite D, Herndon

Sailing Lessons

The Woodbridge Sailing School will be open this Father’s Day weekend. It offers various educational opportunities, including the Try Sailing Package, which lasts two and a half hours, and the Bareboat Cruising package, which is geared toward sailors with more experience who want to learn how to maneuver larger ships. // American Sailing Association at Leesylvania State Park: 2001 Daniel K.
