In the week ahead, Northern Virginia Magazine‘s editors are looking forward to a Candy Factory art exhibit, Carmello’s 30th anniversary and a Total Wine splurge.
An Insider’s Look at D.C.
Jan. 25-March 3
I’m a Northern Virginia native and frequent visitor of the District, so it’ll be an educational experience to see The Exposure Group’s exhibit at The Candy Factory as they showcase photography from beyond the touristy images that are always on display. –LN // The Candy Factory: 9419 Battle St., Manassas
Carmello’s 30th Anniversary
Feb. 6-12
Carmello’s is celebrating 30 years this year, and starting today through Feb. 12, there’s a 30 percent discount off its Italian and Portuguese menu. –SG // Carmello’s: 9108 Center St., Manassas
Reading Idaho by Emily Ruskovich
I don’t usually make New Year’s resolutions, but after missing roughly the last 130 meetings of my book club, I made a New Year’s resolution to read more. Next, I want to pick up Ruskovich’s debut, which has received a warm reception. The Cliffs Notes: the story of a family’s violent and tragic past and its effect on memory and truth. –BK
Cancun Getaway
It’s been hard to focus on work lately, as my mind keeps wandering to the sand and shore. That’s likely because I’m about to jet off (always wanted to say that and actually mean it) to a Cancun resort later this week. I’ll be sure to collect some sea glass and seashells for the rest of the editorial team and to do a whole lot of nothing. #lessismore2017 –EB
We wrap the March issue of the magazine on Wednesday, and it’s time to celebrate. I’ve been sitting on a $20 gift card since Christmas and have yet to explore the Ballston location (opened last fall). Basically, the perfect set of circumstances is converging, and I’m taking advantage. –WD // Total Wine & More: Multiple NoVA locations
