German artist SatOne is adding his abstract, colorful aesthetic to Arlington’s Courthouse neighborhood this week. D.C.-based developer JBG Companies and Arlington Public Art commissioned the artist to create a mural on one of JBG’s buildings in Courthouse on the corner of 15th Street North and North Uhle Street. SatOne began the project on June 25 and will finish on June 30.
Following the completion of the mural, JBG and Arlington Public Art will host a meet and greet with SatOne on June 30 at 6 p.m. The event will be held at the mural’s 15th and Uhle location and will be free and open to the public. Attendees will be able to enjoy refreshments, admire the artwork and ask the artist about his creative process.
This event is part of the Courthouse 2.0: Reimagining the Civic program series, which aims to spark conversation about the future of Courthouse Square by exploring the interaction between civic space and civic life in Arlington in the 21st century.
This isn’t the first time JBG has partnered with SatOne. In 2014, the artist created another mural for the company in L’Enfant Plaza.
“The response to his artwork has been positive, so when the opportunity to have him do another one came up, we were happy to invite him to participate in the next phase of the mural project,” JBG Director and Senior Vice President Matthew Blocher says.
Currently, JBG has commissioned 25 completed murals across the D.C. metro area and has plans to add five more by the end of the summer, including the one in Courthouse.
