With the addition of another condominium complex and a change in its name, Lansdowne Woods of Virginia now offers adults 55 and older a resort-like place to call home.
Lansdowne Woods changed its name from Leisure World of Virginia in April 2015 in order to more accurately convey to the public the active lifestyle of its residents, community manager Bill Reynolds says.
In April, Lansdowne completed The Overlook, marking the end of 21 years of construction on the campus. The newest resident building, which has seven luxury condominium homes, previously housed the sales and exhibit center.
The campus includes five other condominiums—four high-rises and one low-rise—as well as a 50,000-square-foot clubhouse, which has everything from exercise facilities and a chapel to a PNC bank and a restaurant called The Crossroads. The clubhouse also has rooms for hosting clubs, activities, lectures, instruction and special events.
This summer, Lansdowne will host Music at the Monroe, a series of performances that are open to the public. Upcoming events include swing dancing on June 18, the Loudoun Jazz Ensemble on July 16 and the Neno Project on Aug. 20.
Apart from Music at the Monroe, residents have plenty of opportunities to get involved in the community. There are several clubs on campus, including Pottery Club, Genealogy Club and Discovery Group. There are also many movie screenings on various nights of the week. Lansdowne offers day trips, too.
The community’s campus sits along the Potomac River and the Lansdowne Resort Golf Course in Loudoun County, just outside of Leesburg. Residents can golf on the 45-hole course at a discounted price. The golf course was designed by world-renowned golf course architects Robert Trent Jones Jr. and Greg Norman and is made up of three different courses for all playing abilities. Lansdowne Resort also has a 16-acre driving range and three large putting greens to practice on before heading out onto the course. Members can invite guests to play for between $50 and $145 depending on the time of day and the guest’s age.
