A-Town’s Sunday Funday: Not Your Mother’s Brunch

Every Sunday morning, silver chaffing trays offer scrambled eggs, bacon, deep fried chicken wings, pan fried grouper and taco meat. There’s also an omelet station, sushi and flatbread.

The brunch spread at A-Town in Clarendon offers more than the typical daytime feast, and while the seats fill up, no one is here to just eat. They’re holding a table for when, at 3 p.m., it turns from brunch to Sunday Funday. The shades are drawn and the D.J. moves from background Top 40 to thumping club music.

Inflated zebras and monkeys are passed around tables. It’s when the staff emerges in costumes—from bears to Batman—and delivers magnum-sized J. Roget champagne bottles with sparklers. “People come up to me and say ‘I feel like I’m in New York, I feel like I’m in Vegas … We’ve never seen it around here.’” says A-Town’s owner Mike Cordero. “And that’s what we do.”
