7 healthy activities to try the first weekend of November

Spend the weekend de-stressing before the holiday rush at one of these healthy events around the region.

As we enter the holiday season, it is key to stay relaxed during these usual stressful times, especially this year. Whether you want to relax with yoga and a drink or get outside and burn off that extra energy, these seven healthy activities will help you destress before the thick of the holiday season.

Outdoor Tai Chi

Thursday, 10-11 a.m.
Take a break from your computer and recharge with some outdoor tai chi. This class will help improve your posture, physical balance and mental relaxation after a stressful year. Masks and social distancing are required. // Cascades Library: 21030 Whitfield Place, Sterling; free 

Yoga & Hiking Workshop to Renew & Restore Your Energy

Friday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
Get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and get out in nature for a relaxing yoga and hiking workshop. This mini getaway includes a yoga session, mediation, 5-mile hike and delicious s’mores around the campfire. // Sky Meadows State Park: 11012 Edmonds Lane, Delaplane;  $50

2020 Greater Washington Region Heart Walk Digital Experience

Friday-Sunday, times vary
Focus on your heart health with this virtual event. Whether you want to participate in the heart walk, learn more about healthy eating or find new fun fitness activities, this is an easy place to start. // free to join, donations accepted

Carlyle Yoga & Mimosas

Saturday, 9-11 a.m.
Combine your Saturday brunch with your morning yoga session. This monthly event allows you to get in a much needed vinyasa and stretch, then enjoy a delectable mimosa as a reward.  Masks will be required to enter. // The Westin Alexandria Old Town: 400 Courthouse Square, Alexandria; $5

Forest Bathing Walk at Bull Run Mountains Natural Area Preserve

Sunday, 9 a.m.-noon
Walk the woods and take in the natural surroundings at Bull Run. As you explore the mountains, you will be able to see the curves of the landscape, as the leaves continue to fall. Yoga and Wine Tasting

Sunday 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
End your weekend with some wine and yoga. Release your stress with a yoga flow class overlooking the vines of the winery. After class, choose from a variety of wines for your afternoon glass. // Fleetwood Farm Winery: 23705 Evergreen Mills Road, Leesburg; $45 

Sprout 5k Race and 1k Kids Fun Run 2020

Through Sunday
Lace up your shoes and take a run around the neighborhood for a good cause. Whether you want to test yourself with a 5k or join the family for a quick fun run, just choose your starting point and start moving. Proceeds from the race will benefit the Sprout Therapeutic & Education Riding Center in Aldie. // $20-$30
