Three Virginia businesses have launched a coastal experience that blends aviation, oysters, education, and local hospitality.
The oyster experience begins with a ride from Coastal Seaplanes, a Virginia-based operator specializing in private charters. Guests will board an amphibious seaplane and take a 30-minute flight above the Chesapeake Bay landscape.
Guests will be taken to the working waters of Steamboat Wharf Oyster Co. They will then join the farm team aboard their boat for a guided visit of the company’s oyster leases. The team will show participants how oysters are cultivated, and teach them how tides, salinity, habitat, and stewardship contribute to the local shellfish population.
Tour members will then teach guests the art of oyster shucking. In addition to sampling the fresh oysters, guests can also enjoy a pre-packed cooler of food from Nauti Nosh. It will include curated food and drink, including coastal-inspired charcuterie and alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages.
The tours are $1,395 for four passengers (age 21+). Trips are three hours in total: two hours on site and one hour of flight time. They are available on select dates through November 14.
