Immersive travel is becoming a must-have, not just a nice-to-have. Guests don’t simply want a place to lay their head at night. They want an experience. They expect to walk away with memories — with stories they’ll look back on fondly.

Leesburg’s newest hotel, Hotel Burg, is embracing that trend. The boutique hotel and outdoor outfitter Orvis have teamed up to introduce guests to fly fishing on the Potomac River.
Guests are suited up in full fishing gear. They can hit the river for a half- or full-day (four or 8 hour) guided experience with an Orvis-endorsed expert. Lunch is provided for the full-day trip. Guests must have a Maryland fishing license.

During the four-hour guided tours, the guide will also focus on the history, flora, and fauna of the region. There’s also bird watching, and you can take in their landscape with a pair of binoculars in hand.
Other Adventures
At Salamander Resort, you can choose from activities including ziplining for all ages and archery. And perhaps most intriguing, you can book a Survival Experience and learn how to hack it in the wilderness. From mastering compass navigation to building your trapping, shelter building, and water filtration skills, this adventure is a far cry from sitting by the peaceful Salamander pool.
And, at the idyllic Goodstone Inn, there’s an array of hunt country activities. From catch and release fishing to kayaking and tubing on Goose Creek, you can immerse yourself in the adventure of Virginia’s rural resorts.
