Kings Dominion Opens for 50th Season with New Coaster and Anniversary Celebrations

Get ready for family-friendly thrills as the park celebrates a half-century of fun.

By Micahi Oppong March 26, 2025 at 7:00 am

Kings Dominion is kicking off its 50th season with a full calendar of special attractions — including the debut of the world’s tallest and longest launched wing coaster, Rapterra.

The park’s opening day is March 29, with a special preview for season passholders on March 28.

Kings Dominion will be open all week from March 29 to April 6 for Spring Break Days, then will switch to weekends only until May 23. Its sister park, Soak City Water Park, opens May 24.

For Thrill-Seekers

Rapterra, the new coaster, simulates the flight of the “legendary Jungle Hawk.” It shoots guests 145 feet above the jungle floor, accelerating to 65 miles per hour in just four seconds, before plummeting into stomach-churning loops and inversions.

The winged coaster design positions on either side of the track for an “immersive, floorless experience that simulates flying,” according to a news release. This a must-ride for the bravest of thrill seekers.

Plus, don’t miss the other heart-racing rides like Pantherian, Racer 75, and Dominator.

Other Attractions

The “Golden Summerbration” kicks off May 31 and runs through August 3. There will be live and exciting performances making a return to the Kings Dominion Theater — plus two new shows — and a “nighttime spectacle” with entertainment along International Street.

The Kings Dominion Clown Band will return and roam through the park for all to hear. Plus, the singing mushrooms will have a new list of never-before-heard songs.

Hungry visitors can indulge in a limited time menu featuring sweets, savories, and thirst-quenching beverages. There will also be special 50th anniversary merchandise for sale, featuring custom designs and commemorative memorabilia.

Plus, don’t miss the fireworks shows during the Star-Spangled Nights on July 4 and 5.
