NoVA residents know that a day trip to one of Virginia’s many popular wineries and vineyards is a must-do in the summer and fall. But a visit doesn’t necessarily have to be limited to just one day. Several wineries in Northern Virginia and the surrounding area offer overnight stays in cabins and bed-and-breakfasts that are perfect for a relaxing weekend getaway. Here’s where to stay when wine country is calling.

Muse Vineyards
Woodstock
The wine alone is worth the trip, but the scenery will only help make the case for lingering over a second glass or springing for a bottle. Located along a bucolic bend of the Shenandoah River’s North Fork, the vineyard’s onsite 225-year-old farmhouse is a picturesque place to settle in for the weekend. Charming historic details like a screened-in porch and a wood-burning fireplace blend with modern conveniences like central air conditioning and a smart TV. Two spacious bedrooms set this up for a perfect getaway for friends, a family, or two couples. 16 Serendipity Ln., Woodstock

Early Mountain Vineyards
Madison
A favorite of wine connoisseurs, Early Mountain boasts a tasting room deserving of a languid summer lunch. When a meal and a tasting aren’t enough, book a stay at the vineyards’ cottage. Available to rent on Airbnb, the one-bedroom cottage is situated right next to Early Mountain’s grapevines and offers stunning views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. 6109 Wolftown-Hood Rd., Madison

Richard’s Retreat at Myrtle Grove and Potomac Point Vineyard & Winery
Stafford
Potomac Point Vineyard & Winery works in partnership with a stunning retreat just two miles from their door. Richard’s Retreat at Myrtle Grove is a midcentury architectural marvel located on scenic Aquia Creek, a tributary of the Potomac. Known largely as a wedding venue, the retreat is also available for private weekend stays, and its seven bedrooms can accommodate a crowd. With the winery offering Sunday brunch, casual dinners, and wine tastings just down the road, getting a crowd to agree on what to do for the weekend has never been easier. Veritas
Afton
Veritas, which has been a leader in the state’s viticulture for the past 25 years, is as beautiful as they come. Spread across the rolling countryside outside of Charlottesville, Veritas is a family-run business as beloved for its hospitality as it is for its vintages. The elegant bed-and-breakfast, the Farmhouse at Veritas, dates back to 1836 and today offers six country-chic guest rooms. Veritas’ standalone two-bedroom Barn Cottage is a good option for families or friends looking for a more private stay within winery’s beautiful grounds. 151 Veritas Ln., Afton

Crossroads Inn at Pippin Hill Farm & Vineyards
North Garden
Pippin Hill is a Monticello wine region favorite, and its inn should be on your radar. Originally a tavern, the 1820 Crossroads Inn is listed on the National Historic Register and is designated a Virginia Historic Landmark. New owners acquired the inn in 2022. It now works in close concert with Pippin Hill, welcoming winery guests for overnight stays in three rooms, two suites, and a standalone cottage. You might just want to return to try them all. 5022 Plank Rd., North Garden

Barrel Oak Winery and Brewery
Delaplane
The Winemaker’s Cottage at Fauquier County’s Barrel Oak Winery and Brewery makes for an easy weekend getaway. The three-bedroom rental is available on VRBO and offers a perfect excuse to indulge in the Piedmont wine country. It’s a seven-minute walk from Barrel Oak, so it couldn’t be more convenient for a weekend of sampling local viticulture. 3623 Grove Ln., Delaplane

Afton Mountain Vineyards
Afton
The two-bedroom guest house and four cottages here are quiet, private retreats within the winery’s property. Managed by Stay Charlottesville, the comfortable accommodations offer easy proximity to Afton Mountain Vineyards’ excellent wine, plus views of wildflower meadows and peaceful wooded locations. 234 Vineyard Ln., Afton
Barboursville Vineyards
Barboursville
This well-respected vineyard, which was included in the 2024 Governor’s Cup Case, is also an excellent place to stay. The vineyard’s cottages are in historic buildings on the property and offer proximity to Barboursville’s cellars, onsite 18th century mansion ruins, and sweeping countryside views. Overnight stays include breakfast and a complementary bottle, and visitors at the 1804 Inn can request a tasting in the Library 1821 Tasting Room. 17645 Winery Rd., Barboursville
