Dulles International Airport has an unwanted distinction. For the third year in a row, it’s been named as the domestic airport with the highest average fares.
Flights on average cost $488.40 out of Dulles, according to FinanceBuzz, which looked at 2023 U.S. Department of Transportation data on domestic airfares from the nation’s 45 busiest airports.
While Dulles was the most expensive, Reagan National Airport ranked as the 21st most expensive airport with an average flight costing $384.92. Dulles saw its flight cost go down $6.38 from the previous year, but the cost at DCA went up $5.91.
Baltimore-Washington International Airport saw costs from the year before rise even higher, up $7.10. Fairs for domestic fares averaged $358.35 at BWI. It came in as the 30th most expensive airport.
Orlando International Airport, one of the top tourist spots, had the lowest airfare costs at $266.58, followed by Florida’s Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.
