In 1987, the romantic tale of a heroic dance instructor and a youthful hotel guest stole the hearts of audiences across the country and beyond. While the movie itself, Dirty Dancing, is a fictional story, the setting is as real as it is beautiful. The cult classic was set in the Catskills of New York, but it was actually filmed at Mountain Lake Lodge in Pembroke, Virginia.
The vacation destination, which sits in the middle of a nature preserve surrounded by the Appalachian Mountains, celebrates the film by hosting four Dirty Dancing-themed weekends on an annual basis, where its transforms its facilities into Kellerman’s Resort, the setting of the movie.
While the first celebration of the year has already passed, the next three dates of this summer’s Dirty Dancing weekends are June 21 to 23, July 26 to 28 and Aug. 23 to 25.
The festivities resemble those portrayed on the big screen, with grand buffet meals each day, lawn games and even group dance lessons that give everyone the chance to move like Johnny and Baby did. Plus, on both Friday and Saturday night of the weekend there will be a featured, costume-themed dance party where guests can dress like their favorite character from the film.
When guests purchase the weekend package, they can expect a detailed itinerary, complimentary meals and more. See the itinerary below for full details.
