Love Calvin and Hobbes? Spend a weekend retreat exploring the comic’s themes

From friendship and family to God and death, the weekend will focus on spiritual reflections of the classic comic strips.

Thirty-four years ago a little blond boy and a striped tiger graced newspapers’ comics sections for the first time; and instantly became iconic. Calvin and Hobbes, created by Bill Watterson, still resonates with readers today. And now, fans have an opportunity to celebrate the comic while exploring life’s big questions at a weekend retreat.

The Gospel According to Calvin and Hobbes Retreat will be held July 12 to 14 at the Trinity Retreat Center in West Cornwall, Connecticut (about a six-and-a-half-hour drive from Northern Virginia; direct flights available from Dulles International Airport to Bradley International Airport).

Created for all ages with family-friendly content, the retreat, led by Joseph Rose, retreat center executive director, and Nevin Martell, the DC-based author of Looking for Calvin and Hobbes, will explore how the comic strip addresses friendship, values, family, God, death, joy and imagination.

The weekend will also include thematic walks through Trinity Forest, story-telling, spiritual reflection and a game of Calvinball.
