Whether you’re heading out on a first date with someone new or a night out with your spouse, the dinner-and-movie date night is tried and true. Settle in next to your date for some entertainment in a cozy theater, then head out for a bite to eat or a drink while you chat about the film and spend time together. Here are some spots in Northern Virginia where the theaters are conveniently surrounded by great bars and restaurants.

One Loudoun
Catch a blockbuster film at The Alamo Drafthouse in One Loudoun, then explore the bustling shopping center for a bite to eat while you spend more time with your date. Sense of Thai brings the heat with flavorful Thai dishes and inventive Tiki-inspired cocktails. The Lost Fox Hideaway makes another great dinner opportunity in a cozy, pub-like atmosphere, where you’ll find steaks, seafood, and pasta. Or, if you’re in the mood for something sweet, try one of the over-the-top milkshakes at The Yard Milkshake Bar — with sky-high toppings, they’re a lighthearted treat perfect to share.
Mosaic District
The Angelika is the place to go if you and your date are true cinephiles. Here you’ll find independent and foreign films that aren’t always at typical theaters. Discuss the film over French shareables and specialty cocktails at Parc de Ville’s rooftop bar overlooking the Mosaic District. Or, go for a moody atmosphere with a stop at the MacMillan Whisky Room for an old fashioned, and finish the evening with a scoop from Mimi’s Handmade Ice Cream before you say goodnight.

Reston Town Center
Reston Town Center presents another opportunity for a full night of entertainment, beginning at the new Look Cinemas, which joined the center last October. There are plenty of choices for dinner after your movie. Head to Pisco y Nazca for fresh Peruvian seafood dishes — the menu boasts nine variations of ceviche — and cocktails. Or, try Makers Union for a lively atmosphere and expansive outdoor patio while you enjoy a sandwich or entrée and a drink.

Courthouse and Clarendon
In Arlington, the area around Metro’s Courthouse and Clarendon stations offers up a lively dining scene full of must-try restaurants and bars. The modern American CIRCA at Clarendon offers sandwiches, flatbreads, and entrées like steak frites, along with an expansive menu of cocktails, wine, and beer. Ireland’s Four Courts is the place to go for a quick pint and a bite in a traditional Irish pub. Or, pop into Wilson Hardware after the movie for dinner and creative drinks on the rooftop. Add in a showing at the AMC Courthouse, and it’ll be a night to remember.

Crystal City
Bring your date to the Alamo Drafthouse in Crystal City, conveniently located across the street from National Landing’s relatively new Water Park concept. The open-air dining area makes a great place to stroll around after a movie. Grab a quick bite to eat in the park at one of the dining pavilions like Bubbie’s Plant Burgers & Fizz or Queen Mother’s, and finish it with a sweet treat from Dolci Gelati.
