From touring holiday light displays to going bowling: What we’re looking forward to, Nov. 9-15

Winter Wonderland
Now that I have taken a little break and packed away the Halloween decorations, it is time to get ready for Christmas. Every year my family does a big outdoor display and since my Halloween display was such a hit with the neighbors, I want to add some DIY decorations to the yard for the coming season. This weekend, after I pick up some supplies, I’m going to head over to Meadowlark Gardens’ Winter Walk of Lights to take in the beautiful light displays and maybe get some more inspiration. If you’re looking to get in the holiday spirit, here are the other light displays opening at NOVA Parks this month. -Michele Kettner, editorial assistant // Meadowlark Botanical Gardens: 9750 Meadowlark Gardens Court, Vienna; $9-$16

Having a Ball
Ever since businesses started opening up again, I’ve been spending my non-food-focused evenings becoming a bowler. I’m bad, really bad, but you wouldn’t know it from my slick shoes and sangria-scented ball. You can bet that sometime this week, I’ll be at one of these lanes doing my very best to avoid yet another gutter ball.  -Alice Levitt, food editor/critic

Dreaming of a Getaway
Raise your hand if you’re a working parent who also has your children home with you during this surreal time? I see you. I am you. As we head into the colder months and there are fewer opportunities to play outside, I can already feel cabin fever setting in. There have definitely been some silver linings to being at home with my two kids 24/7 (they’re pretty cute), but it’s okay to admit you’re also dreaming of some time without anyone crawling on you, asking for help going to the potty or begging for just one more piece of Halloween candy. If I could have a weekend to myself (okay, my husband can come too), I’d head up here and go glamping. In the meantime, I’m going to cozy up in one of these sweatshirts after my kids go to bed and eat their Halloween candy. -Katie Bianco, editor
