5 family-friendly fairs coming to NoVA in August

Get ready for agriculture exhibits, tasty treats, rides and more.

August is prime county fair season. Check out these five happening in and near NoVA this month and beyond.

4-H Fair and Carnival
Hendon’s Frying Pan Park will be the site of the 71st annual 4-H celebration. In addition to regular fair activities, participate in a variety of informative 4-H exhibitions, like cow-milking and blacksmithing demos. // Aug. 1-4; times vary; Frying Pan Park: 279 West Ox Road, Herndon; free entry, $10 parking Saturday and Sunday

Prince William County Fair
Prince William boasts the largest county fair in the state, expecting upwards of 90,000 to 100,000 attendees. Join the 67th annual celebration originally created to promote agriculture in the region. // Aug. 9-17; times vary; Prince William County Fairgrounds: 10624 Dumfries Road, Manassas; $12 adults, $6 children/senior

Clarke County Fair
The township of Berryville plays host to Clarke County’s 65th annual fair. See agriculture exhibits, horticultural exhibits, a truck pull and eat as much barbecued chicken as you possibly can. // Aug. 11-17; times vary; Clarke County Ruritan Fairgrounds: 890 W. Main St., Berryville; $7-$18 adults, $2-$5 5-15, free 0-5

Arlington County Fair
Once again, Thomas Jefferson Community Center will be transformed into one of the largest free events on the East Coast featuring farm exhibits, midway rides, magic and more. Continue the 40-year-old tradition of celebrating Arlington County. // Aug. 14-18; times vary; Thomas Jefferson Community Center: 3501 Second St. S., Arlington; free

Virginia State Fair
Put the mother of them all on your calendar for September. The Virginia State Fair, inaugurated in 1854, will feature musical performances, a parade, competitions, an endless amount of food and drink and plenty of exhibitions. // Sept. 27-Oct. 4; times vary; The Meadow Event Park: 13191 Dawn Blvd., Doswell; prices vary
