Juneteenth, observed on June 19, commemorates the anniversary of the day in 1865 that enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, received news of their freedom. It marks a significant day in United States history and was officially recognized as a federal holiday in 2021. Here are seven Juneteenth events to check out in the region this year.

Don’t forget to bring your lawn chairs to this free community event in celebration of Juneteenth.
