Bungee Jumping Experience Opens Soon in Harpers Ferry

This will be the first East Coast bungee jumping site and the first in the country to offer body and ankle harness water dip jumps.

Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, is known for its outdoor adventures. And this spring, another heart-pumping activity will open. The Great Bungee Company is opening a bungee jumping experience, making it the first bungee jumping site on the East Coast.

The new adrenaline-inducing activity is slated to open on Saturday, May 16. The bungee jumping site is nearing completion; 60% of the tower construction and installation is complete. After that phase, The Great Bungee Company will begin hiring and testing before its grand opening.

“Our goal has always been to create an unforgettable experience that blends adventure, safety, and the natural beauty of Harpers Ferry,” Nick Steers, director of The Great Bungee Company, said in a press release. “Reaching this milestone is incredibly meaningful, and we’re excited to welcome our first jumpers this spring.”

The site is located at the Old Standard Quarry in Harpers Ferry — the same quarry that is home to River Riders’ Harpers Ferry Waterpark. It overlooks the School House Ridge battlefield. It will be the first quarry-based bungee jumping site as well as the first to offer body and ankle harness water dip jumps in the U.S.

Jumpers Wanted

Those brave enough to walk out to the end of the jump tower will face a 150-foot drop from the tower to the 100-foot deep lagoon. Jumpers will be able to choose between an ankle or body harness jump, and a water-dip jump or staying dry. They can also decide whether they want to dive forward or fall backwards. The Great Bungee Company doesn’t offer tandem bungee jumping.

Want to be the first jumper to christen the tower? The company is launching its “Be the First” campaign, an online charity auction supporting seven local organizations, on April 6. The top bidder will win the chance to be the very first jumper on Friday, May 15.

Bungee Jumping Prices

Adrenaline junkies looking to be one of the first 1,000 jumps can purchase a priority pass for $117.92. More than 500 people have already signed up for the special offer which provides jumpers with a 17% discount and gives them access to books ahead of the general public.

Priority pass booking will be open from April 9 to 23; general reservations will open on April 24. Outside of the special, first jumps are $141.51 with additional jumps for the same person, same day for $70.75. Combo packages and group pricing are also available.

All jumpers must be at least 16 years old and between 80 and 300 pounds. Those 18 and older are able to jump without parental consent. The property also offers a spectator area near the check-in for registration. Only jumpers are allowed at the tower and platform.

Bungee jumps are available by reservation only. The jumping site will be open seven days a week, but the website warns that popular time slots can be booked up to three weeks in advance. Peregrine Ln. Entrance, Harpers Ferry, West Virginia
