Halloween for Grown-Ups: 7 Adult Ways to Celebrate Spooky Season

These seasonal events are perfect for a date night or outing with friends.

Halloween season isn’t just for kids. These adult Halloween activities include ghost stories, pub crawls, and spooktacular candy and wine pairings.

Alexandria Booze and Boos Tour

Now through November 1

Check out the creepier side of early American history on this two-and-a-half-hour walking tour. Guests will visit some of the most haunted locations in Alexandria. The tour stops at various pubs that can be crowded at times, so guides will tell the stories outside or in between stops. The tour visits approximately three to four haunted bars and all guests must be age 21+. 480 King St., Alexandria

Tuesday Night Creature Features at Angelika Film Center

October 21 and 28

Celebrate spooky season with the last two “creature features” at Angelika Film Center. Tremors, about gigantic, wormy monsters, screens October 21 at 7 p.m. Just before Halloween on October 28 (also at 7 p.m.) is Cloverfield, about a creature that descends onto the streets of New York City, terrifying its residents. 2911 District Ave., Fairfax

October 22, 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Mount Purrnon Cat Café and Wine Bar is hosting a festive evening with a wine and Halloween candy pairing. Afterwards, guests are encouraged to stick around and spend some time with the cats at the café. 109 South Alfred St., Alexandria

Brick-or-Treat Adult Night at Lego Discovery Center

October 24, 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Part of Halloween as an adult is feeling like a kid again, and the Lego Discovery Center in Springfield understands that. The Brick-or-Treat Adult Night includes a 4D monster party movie, full access to the center, a costume contest, raffles, and more. Guests must be age 18 to enter and 21 or older with a valid ID to buy alcohol. 6563 Springfield Mall, Ste. 12004, Springfield

Clifton Haunted Trail

October 25, 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The Clifton Haunted Trail is not for the faint of heart — or little ones. Best recommended for adults or older teens, the trail is full of jump scares and terrifying costumed characters. With many local homes and commercial residences allegedly haunted, you may encounter a real ghost or two as you wander the trail. Clifton Town 8-Acre Park, Clifton

Eve’s Haunted Garden at Eden Try Winery

October 30 to November 1

This Halloween wine experience in Fredericksburg includes a guided tasting of nine wines paired with spooky-themed bites. There will also be a creepy walk through Eve’s “cursed” garden with eerie décor, surprises, and of course lots of photo ops. Guests are advised to dress for the weather and wear appropriate footwear. 6818 River Rd., Fredericksburg

The Haunted Ballroom at Clarendon Ballroom

October 31 and November 1

Clarendon Ballroom turns frightening with a Halloween night annual Haunted Ballroom Bash and November 1 Afterlife Party. Expect DJs, immersive performers, a haunted photobooth, food and drinks, and the chance to win more than $2,000 in costume contest prizes. 3185 Wilson Blvd., Arlington
