This Weekend’s 13 Best Events in Northern Virginia and DC 

Get interior design inspiration, explore local farms, grab a signed book by a local author, and more.

The DMV area is full of exciting events this weekend. Explore annual fall markets, grab tickets to a screening at a film festival, or enjoy a glass of wine from local wineries at one of the many activities across Northern Virginia and Washington, DC.  

Tawny Chatmon: Sanctuaries of Truth, Dissolution of Lies

October 15–March 8  

Grab tickets to the presentation of Tawny Chatmon’s photography exhibition. With selections from several series including “The Restoration” and “The Reconciliation,” the exhibit features multi-media elements like assemblage, embroidery, film, and audio narratives. Stylistically inspired by Austrian painter Gustav Klimt and Byzantine mosaics, Chatmon’s work includes portraits of Black children and addresses underlying themes of stereotyping and racism. Middleburg Film Festival

October 16–19  

This 13th annual four-day festival showcases a curated list of over 45 films, and features Q&A panels of filmmakers, actors, and special guests. The event was founded by BET co-founder and Salamander Hotels and Resorts CEO Sheila Johnson, and screenings take place at several Middleburg locations. Multiple area locations, starting at $20 for individual screenings 

Union Market by Design: Room Service  

October 16–19  

For those looking to get fresh inspiration on home decor, the former Motel 6 in Union Market District will transform into a design pop-up featuring a lineup of interior designers and craftsmen. The event is open to the public for free, where guests can browse rooms transformed by each designer while sipping a cocktail from Bar Betsie. 1345 Fourth St. NE, Washington, DC, free 

Eli Young Band 

October 17, 7 p.m.  

Grab tickets to see this Texas-based country band touring for its seventh album, Strange Hours. Known for hits like “Love Ain’t,” “Crazy Girl,” and “Even If It Breaks Your Heart,” the band is named after lead vocalist Mike Eli and guitarist James Young. Tally Ho Theater: 19 W. Lucketts Fall Market

October 17–19  

For the 25th year, this “vintage hip” market will host over 200 vendors from across the East Coast, selling design pieces and furniture that are antique, vintage, or repurposed. Browse one-of-a-kind pieces while enjoying live music, food trucks, workshops, and a beer garden hosted by Leesburg brewery Vanish. Clarke County Ruritan Fairgrounds: 890 W. Main St., Berryville, $20  

Noir City DC  

Through October 23 

The Film Noir Foundation will host its annual screening with foundation board member Alan K. Rode introducing the curated selection of films. This year’s screenings highlight the influence and cinematic legacies of several women known for their roles in noir films, including Joan Bennett, Claire Trevor, Helen Walker, and more. Haymarket Day

October 18, 10 a.m.–4 p.m.  

With over 200 vendors, local food, live music, and beer gardens, Haymarket Day is the town’s biggest local celebration of the year. Enjoy a parade featuring students, performers, and law enforcement beginning at 10 a.m., then browse the streets full of local craft and food vendors. 15000 Washington St. Ste. 100, Haymarket, free  

Eat Local Read Local  

October 18, 11 a.m.–2 p.m.  

This ninth annual outdoor book sale and festival will have over 70 local authors lined up selling and signing copies of their books. With food trucks, live music, and kids’ activities like face painting and balloon artists, it’s a perfect event to support local authors and have fun with the whole family. PikeFest  

October 18, 12–5 p.m.  

This neighborhood festival will showcase local Columbia Pike businesses and restaurants with seasonal food, beer, and wine. Guests can enjoy bounce houses, live music, DJs, and photo ops while connecting with neighbors and members of the local community. Penrose Square: 2597 Columbia Pike, Arlington, free

Bull Run Wine Festival  

October 18–19, 12–5 p.m.  

For Virginia wine lovers, this two-day tasting event will host over 20 wineries. Enjoy live music and a variety of food trucks between sips of your favorite local wine from vineyards and wineries like Jolene Family Winery, Endhardt Vineyards, 8 Chains North, and more. Loudoun Farm Tour  

October 18–19 

Explore local produce suppliers, dairy farms, and apiaries on this self-guided tour of Loudoun County farm country. Stop by any of the 42 participating locations for a glass of wine, a taste of local honey, or a bundle of fresh flowers. Multiple area locations, free   

The Wild Duck

October 18–November 16 

Opening weekend kicks off for David Eldridge’s adaptation of 19th century playwright Henrik Ibsen’s story of the eccentric son of a wealthy businessman. The drama follows as Gregers Werle discovers the thin line between truth and illusion. Harman Hall: 610 F St. NW, Washington, DC, starting at $65 

Turkish Festival 

October 19, 11 a.m.–6:30 p.m.  

Discover the songs, flavors, and dances of Turkey at this annual cultural celebration and festival. With a packed program of performances, several food vendors, and artisan vendors, this event is perfect for those looking to discover and celebrate Turkish culture. Pennsylvania Avenue NW, between Third and Sixth streets, Washington, DC, free
