As the country prepares for its 250th birthday, you can expect plenty of patriotic events popping up across the region over the next few months. One that you’ll definitely want to mark on your calendars is the film preview of Ken Burns’ new documentary The American Revolution at George Washington’s Mount Vernon.
The estate will host An Evening with Ken Burns on Wednesday, October 29, from 5 p.m. to 8:15 p.m on the bowling green outside of the estate.
The American Revolution is a six-party documentary that focuses on the country’s struggle to go from 13 British colonies to an independent nation after an eight-year war for independence.
Guests will be able to roam the estate grounds, take in a pre-show musical performance, and grab a bite at the Executive Orders food truck, which is available until 7:45 p.m.
Ken Burns will join the crowd at 6:15 p.m. to give his remarks and to showcase clips from the film. The event is free to attend. It is recommended that guests bring blankets or small chairs as seating is not provided.
Registration for the film preview opens on Wednesday, September 24. Parking for the event is available on the lots on both sides of the George Washington Memorial Parkway. Additional parking will be available at Mount Vernon High School and a shuttle bus to the estate will begin at 5 p.m.
The documentary premieres on Sunday, November 16, at 8 p.m on PBS. The series will air consecutive nights through Friday, November 21.
