5 Local Date Ideas for Romantic Comedy Fans

If you love rom-coms, you’ll want to check out these date night destinations.

If you’re the first to suggest a romantic comedy on movie night, chances are you know these classics inside and out. In honor of Valentine’s Day, here are five local options to take your significant other paired with a classic rom-com.

Movie: When Harry Met Sally

Date: Lunch at Chewish Deli

Fans of the iconic Katz’s Deli scene in this Nora Ephron classic will want to take their significant other to Chewish Deli. Order one of their stacked sandwiches. And who knows, maybe their turkey club or BLT will make you say, “I’ll have what she’s having!” 807 Pendleton St., Alexandria

Movie: You’ve Got Mail

Date: Wandering around Bard’s Alley Bookshop

Do you feel connected to Meg Ryan’s bookshop owner character, Kathleen Kelly, in You’ve Got Mail? Then you’ll want to check out this indie bookstore in Vienna. The store is perfect to wander around in with a date you met online (even if their screenname is NY152!). 110 Church St. NW, Vienna

Movie: 13 Going on 30

Date: Grabbing a soda and some candy at Rocket Fizz Alexandria

If you love the ‘80s vibes of this 2004 romantic comedy, this retro Alexandria candy shop will bring you back to your younger years. Grab some vintage soda and taffy (or maybe Razzles?). And don’t forget to blast “Thriller” on your way home. 1721 Centre Plaza, Alexandria

Movie: Clueless

Date: Shopping and dinner at Tysons Galleria

Make like shopaholic Cher Horowitz and head to Tysons Galleria for some retail therapy. You may end up just like the Beverly Hills teen and realize you’re “majorly, totally, butt crazy in love.” Why not celebrate at any of the restaurants in Tysons too, like Andys Pizza, Maggiano’s, or P.F. Changs? 2001 International Dr., McLean

Movie: It’s Complicated

Date: Breakfast at Dolce & Ciabatta

Meryl Streep’s character in this 2009 Nancy Meyers movie is a bakery owner. If you’re a fan of the film, which also stars Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin, head to Dolce & Ciabatta. Order a a fluffy croissant, decadent éclair, or tasty Danish. You may just decide to make some croissants from scratch, just like Streep and Martin’s characters in the movie. 9H Catoctin Cir. SW, Leesburg
