If a dinner for two isn’t your style (or maybe you waited too long and can’t get a reservation), that doesn’t mean you can’t still show your loved one you care this Valentine’s Day. Instead, head out for one of these fun date nights that will bring the romance.
Casablanca at The Angelika
An evening at the movies is always a reliable date night. Make it a little more special for Valentine’s with a screening of the classic love story Casablanca at the Angelika in Mosaic. There are screenings on February 14 at 4:30, 7, and 9:30 p.m. 2911 District Ave., Fairfax, $19.19
Jammin Java
Take your sweetheart to Jammin Java’s All You Need Is Love show by The Fabulous Dialtones and move and groove your way to a great night. 227 Maple Ave. E., Vienna, $15
Skate at Stonebridge
Ice skating isn’t just limited to the holiday season. This rink in the Potomac Town Center is open through February 23, making for a great spot to spend time with your Valentine. When you’re done, grab a drink at nearby Bar Louie or Brew Republic Bierwerks to warm up. River Rock Way and Bridge View Drive, $10
Carriage Rides in Reston Town Center
Looking for something a little over-the-top? Take your love on a horse-drawn carriage ride. Reston Town Center will host rides on Valentine’s Day, departing from the Pavilion Ice Rink. Proceeds from the event benefit the nonprofit Friends of Reston. 12001 Sunrise Valley Dr., Reston, $40
Paint & Sip at Muse Paintbar
Get creative with a couple’s painting session at Muse Paintbar in Fairfax. There are several options on Valentine’s Day, including a chance to paint portraits of each other in a Picasso-inspired style. 2920 District Ave., Ste. 100, Fairfax, prices vary
Valentines Specials at Fountains Day Spa
The Fountains Day Spa in Alexandria has several Valentine’s Day specials, including a couple’s instructional session where you and your date will get a chance to learn how to give massages at home. Other specials include a 75-minute couples’ package and a “love thy self” package. 422 S. Washington St., Alexandria, prices vary
The United States Botanic Garden
Instead of splurging on a big bouquet, walk among the flowers at the Botanic Garden. A new exhibit titled Orchids: Masters of Deception opens February 14 in the Conservatory, where visitors can see two 9-foot-tall tree sculptures covered in orchids. 100 Maryland Ave. SW, Washington, DC, free
