Weekend Fun: Solar Eclipse Activities, Art Showcases, and Beer Festivals

Get ready for a historic solar eclipse at a museum, adopt a new pet with discounted rates, or visit the many art and beer festivals this weekend.

While the solar eclipse on April 8 is drawing all the attention, this weekend is not to be overlooked. Ready yourself for a lineup including the Solar Eclipse Family Day at the National Air and Space Museum, an entertaining dog show, lively art and beer festivals, and the chance to see the Virginia bluebells at Riverbend Park. Here’s what to expect on the weekend of April 5 to 7. 

Stomp 

April 5–7 

Experience the pulse-pounding beats of Stomp, an unconventional Broadway show that uses brooms, garbage cans, and matchboxes for music, dance, and theatrical performance. Capital One Hall: 7750 Capital One Tower Rd., Tysons, starting at $43.50 

Same But Different  

April 5–27 

For Diversity Month, this art exhibit explores human connection across various mediums and styles. The exhibit explores the notion of identity. Del Ray Artisans Gallery: 2704 Mount Vernon Ave., Alexandria, free 

Bluebells at the Bend 

April 6, 10 a.m.–2 p.m. 

Admire the stunning Virginia bluebells at Riverbend Park. Walk along paths lined with wildflowers, see live animals and exhibitors, and enjoy crafts and food against a backdrop of live music. Riverbend Park: 8700 Potomac Hills St., Great Falls, $10 online, $12 in-person 

Mutts Gone Nuts 

April 6, 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. 

Catch dogs performing high jumps, dances, and performing barrel tricks at this comedy show. With a Guinness World Record–holding jumper and a World Championship Frisbee dog in the 75-minute lineup, it promises to be a memorable show. Center for the Arts at George Mason University: 4373 Mason Pond Dr., Fairfax, $15  

FXBG Brewfest 

April 6, 11 a.m.–4 p.m. 

Sample the finest in craft beers, ciders, and meads from local and regional breweries. Complement your drinks with delicious food offerings and groove to live music. Fredericksburg Fairgrounds: 2400 Airport Ave., Fredericksburg, $30 

Reston Founder’s Day 

April 6, noon–5 p.m. 

Reston celebrates its 60th anniversary and Founder’s Day its 20th year with a day filled with community spirit, dance performances, and a book fair featuring local authors. Participate in the community cleanup, enjoy live performances, and explore exhibits at the Reston Museum. Reston Museum: 1639 Washington Plz. N., Reston, free 

DMV Local Breweries & Distilleries Festival 

April 6, 1–6 p.m. 

Indulge in over 40 beer and cider samples, enjoy live music, and engage in friendly competitions like keg curling and a three-legged race. This family- and dog-friendly event also features a kids’ corner with face painting and a moon bounce. Shipgarten: 7581 Colshire Dr., McLean, free 

Petalpalooza 

April 6, 1–9 p.m. 

Celebrate spring at The Yards Park with live music, interactive art, and activities for the whole family. Enjoy a beverage garden, roaming entertainers, and beautiful sights along the Anacostia River. Don’t miss the spectacular fireworks show to wrap up the evening. Art Blooms at Mosaic 

April 6–7 

Experience an art festival amid cherry blossoms at The Mosaic, featuring over 90 vendors selling handmade, artisan, and vintage goods, plus 50 vendors with fresh produce and snacks. Kids can enjoy pumpkin painting and a games corner, while adults can sip and shop with cocktails in hand. Mosaic District: 2905 District Ave., Fairfax, free 

Solar Eclipse Family Day 

April 6–8 

Get ready for the solar eclipse at the National Air and Space Museum with weekend planetarium shows and tips on how to view the eclipse safely before the outdoor viewing at the Udvar-Hazy Center or National Mall on April 8. Bring your own eclipse glasses. National Air and Space Museum: Sixth Street and Independence Avenue SW, Washington, DC, free 

Partial Eclipse of the Heart Adoption Event 

April 6–8 

Animal Welfare League of Arlington’s solar eclipse-themed adoption event slashes 80 percent off fees for pets over six months old, making it easier to find the purrfect partner. 2650 S. Arlington Mill Dr., Arlington
