Just the Treats
“I’ve been too old to trick or treat for roughly 30 years. But I still want candy. I could go to the supermarket and buy some fun-size packages, but why would I do that when I can hit up a local sweet producer? I’ll use this list to find just the sugar rush I’m seeking.” –Alice Levitt, food editor/critic

R&R
“After a very busy month, I’m in need of a relaxing weekend to myself. After work, I’m planning on packing up the car and heading down south to Roanoke. I’ve never stayed in the city before, so I’m following these recommendations for the best 48 hours I can get in the arts capital of Virginia.” –Michele Kettner, associate digital & research editor

Corn-undrum
“If you’re too old to know who Sonic the Hedgehog is, are you also too old to visit a corn maze themed around him? I’m placing my bets on ‘no,’ and heading to this 10-acre farm in Berryville. I’ll watch Children of the Corn first, just for good measure, before attempting to untangle a path through the stalks.” –Kelly Kendall, editor

Saison-al Flavors
“Crooked Run Fermentation, whose pumpkin spice Marzen we just featured, has locations in both Leesburg and Sterling, and their menu includes barleywines, wild ales, and English bitters. Seems worth the trip, whether you’re a PSL fan or not. “–James Finley, senior editor
