By Kelly Magyarics March 17, 2021 at 2:19 pm

The weather’s getting warmer; it’s a perfect time to plan a golf outing with a few friends or family members. Here are nine courses at clubs, regional parks, and community centers where you can practice your swing without needing to purchase a membership. Check the website or call for the most up-to-date information about COVID protocols and reservations, then grab your clubs and go. Fore!

Brambleton Golf Course

Located at Brambleton Regional Park in Ashburn, this 72-par championship course just off the Dulles Greenway measures almost 6,88 total yards. It features several tiered greens, significant water play on eight holes, rolling terrain, bunkered greens and fairways, large sand traps, and smooth putting greens that offer the chance to spot area wildlife. The course also has a clubhouse, Brambleton Ale House, and a full pro shop. // 42180 Ryan Rd., Ashburn

Pohick Bay Golf Course

One of the region’s most scenic options, this 18-hole course located in Pohick Bay Regional Park on the Mason Neck Peninsula in Lorton spans 6,400 yards and features bent grass from tee to green with a mix of poa annua. It has rolling terrain throughout, several significant water hazards, and a 132 slope rating. Before or after your game, head to the practice facility and driving range, fully stocked pro shop, and full-service snack bar. // 10301 Gunston Rd., Lorton

Algonkian Golf Course

Tee up for 18 holes of championship golf along the scenic Potomac River at this course at Sterling’s Algonkian Regional Park. It’s perfect for both the occasional player and serious golfer, with features including Bermuda-grass fairways, a tree-lined front nine with water in play on three holes, a rolling back nine, and an in-play stream on four holes. // 47001 Fairway Dr., Sterling

Herndon Centennial Golf Course

This 18-hole, par-71 layout in Herndon is the closest golf course to Dulles International Airport. It has undulating greens, gently rolling fairways, meandering creeks, and several water hazards. Egg Karne cafe overlooks the 18th green and offers drinks, snacks and sandwiches. // 909 Ferndale Ave., Herndon

Raspberry Falls Golf & Hunt Club

Virginia’s only Gary Player–designed 18-hole championship course is at this club in Leesburg, which offers tee times for non-members. It features meandering streams and gorgeous scenery as well as elevated tee boxes, lush bentgrass greens, and Scottish-style stacked pot bunkers with their own names, like Lee’s Bunker and Satan’s Foxhole. It was built on what was once a raspberry farm, and players can still spot wild raspberry bushes along the greens. // 41601 Raspberry Dr., Leesburg

1757 Golf Club

This par-70, 6,600-yard course in Dulles is routed through gently rolling terrain with elevation changes up to 30 feet, dramatic views of Broad Run and the Virginia countryside, and strategically placed bunkers. // 45120 Waxpool Rd., Dulles

Stonewall Golf Club

Overlooking Lake Manassas, this 7,000-yard par-72 course in Gainesville has five sets of tees to challenge players, while bentgrass tees, greens, and fairways provide an immaculate playing field. There is also a 25-station grass tee driving range, two short game greens, and an expansive putting green. // 15601 Turtle Point Dr., Gainesville

Potomac Shores Golf Club

This course is the only public 18-hole Jack Nicklaus Signature Design in the DC region, making it accessible to both novices and pros. Carved through mature hardwood forests and overlooking the Potomac River, the par-72 layout has dramatic vistas, native wetland buffers, and more than 200 feet of elevation changes. // 1750 Dunnington Pl., Dumfries

Medal of Honor Golf Course

Originally called The Officers’ Club Golf Course, this 18-hole championship course in Quantico is open to all base eligible personnel as well as the general public. Players will find a tight layout, mature trees, sand bunkers, and water lining the sculptured Bermuda fairways; there is also an onsite beverage cart. // 3313 Fuller Heights Rd., Quantico
