Where to Celebrate Easter and Passover

From Easter egg hunts to Seder meals to-go, here are ways to mark the traditional Christian and Jewish spring holidays.

Easter falls on April 4 and Passover runs from March 27 to April 4 this year, and while festivities may look a bit different, there are still plenty of ways for you and your family to celebrate these holidays. Please note that many of these events require advance registration, so plan ahead. Here’s to a blessed Easter and chag Pesach sameach!

Easter Egg Hunt at Lee-Fendall House

March 27 and April 3, 11 a.m., noon, 1 p.m., 2 p.m., 3 p.m.
The historic museum and garden in Alexandria is hosting a socially distant take on the time-honored tradition. Reservations must be made in advance, face masks are required, and attendees need to bring their own baskets. Tickets are $15 per participating child ages 2 to 12, accompanying adults are $5, and children under 2 are free. // 614 Oronoco St., Alexandria

Easter Cookie Decorating Class at AR Workshop

March 20, 11 a.m.–12:30 p.m.
Sign up to attend this class in person, or order a cookie decorating kit to enjoy at home. Class attendance is limited to 12 people, each of whom will be given their own separate workstation to ensure social distancing between participants as well as their dedicated piping bags, decorations, and decorating utensils. Masks are required and hand sanitizer will be provided. Tickets cost $70 per attendee for the in-person class and $25 for the take-home kit. // 10290 Bristow Center Dr., Bristow

Easter Fun Drive-Thru at Piney Branch Elementary School

March 20, 10 a.m.–noon

Underwater Egg Hunt at the Reston Community Center

March 27, 12:30 p.m.–2:30 p.m.
Come search for hundreds of eggs sinking and floating in the RCC pools. Tickets cost $4 for Reston residents and $8 for non-residents and must be booked in advance. Sessions are broken down according to the age of the participants. // 2310 Colts Neck Rd., Reston

Rabbit Hole in One at Burke Lake Park

March 27-29, times vary
Play socially distanced mini-golf and do an egg hunt at Burke Lake Park. Groups of up to five can play their way through the specially decorated course, while the park’s Spring Bunny will be busy hiding eggs for each group on the 18th hole. Advance registration is required and tickets cost $10 per attendee. // 7315 Ox Rd., Fairfax Station

Scrambled Egg Hunts at Brentsville Courthouse

March 20 and 21, 11 a.m.–3 p.m.
This unique spin on an egg hunt will take you on a scavenger hunt to find pieces you can use to solve a puzzle to earn candy and treats. Egg hunt areas are divided by family groups of six or fewer, with a time limit of 30 minutes for each egg hunt; once your puzzle is completed, turn it in to receive a gift basket for the family to take home filled with treats, prizes, and more. Masks are required outside of the reserved egg hunt area. Tickets cost $30 each per slot for groups up to six people. // 12229 Bristow Rd., Bristow

Easter Egg Hunt at Trinity Lutheran Church

March 27, starting at 10 a.m.

Easter Egg Hunt at Rippon Lodge Historic Site

March 27, 10:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m.
During this fun activity trail at Rippon Lodge, participants can look for hidden objects, do physical tasks, tell joke,s and more as they walk along ground, grass, and gravel surfaces and receive their eggs. Reservations, masks, social distancing, and parental supervision are required, and bring your own basket. Hunt times are: 10:30 a.m.–11 a.m. for children 4 and under; 11 a.m.–noon for ages 4–6; 12:30 p.m.­–1:30 p.m. for ages 4–6; and 2:30 p.m.–3:30 p.m. for ages 7–11. // 15520 Blackburn Rd., Woodbridge

Easter Egg Hunt at Espresso at Roll Call Room Cafe

March 27, 11 a.m.
Not only can kids get eggs and treats during this hunt, Hermes Clean is giving away four free residential air-duct cleaning services if you find the golden egg. Spots are limited and COVID restrictions apply. Tickets cost $10 per child and proceeds go to Under the Shield, a 501(c)(3). // 17229 Wayside Dr., Dumfries

Easter Cooking Decorating Baskets To-Go at Fairmont Washington

April 1, noon
Order a basket filled with the supplies needed to make festive Easter cookies, including six decorated brown-butter-and-honey shortbread cookies for inspiration, 11 frosted brown-butter-and-honey shortbread cookies to decorate, four pastry piping bags with green, pink, purple, and yellow frosting and associated sprinkles, and six Easter eggs filled with either chocolate or little toys. Pick up your basket in the hotel lobby on April 1 at noon; those who don Easter attire or masks are entered to win dinner and other prizes. Fairmont’s “canine ambassador,” Georgie, will greet guests in her own Easter outfit. Passover & Easter To-Go at Baker’s Daughter

A four-course menu for two ($98) is available for takeout and delivery, featuring a choice of appetizer, entreé, and dessert along with sides and a seasonal snack. Order by March 12 to receive a complimentary order of chocolate matzoh candy or marshmallow peeps. The Passover meal starts with latkes with applesauce and horseradish cream, followed by a choice of smoked salmon salad or matzoh ball soup; choice of slow-roasted brisket, whole-roasted branzino or half-roasted chicken, along with roasted, haroset and gefilte fish; and a choice of chocolate pot de creme or chocolate coconut cake for dessert.  The Easter meal begins with deviled eggs with crispy prosciutto and dill followed by a choice of roasted beet salad, goat cheese salad, or spring burrata salad. Entreé selections are slow-roasted saddle of lamb, whole roasted branzino, or half-roasted chicken, along with whipped potatoes, roasted baby carrots, and toasted farro. Seder in a Box / Easter Brunch in a Box at Cork Wine Bar and Market

Celebrate Passover Seder at home with this multi-course menu for four ($85), which includes chicken soup with housemade matzo balls, hard-boiled eggs, wine-braised brisket, spring vegetables, potato, leek-and-spinach kugel, and Passover chocolates; the meal also includes egg, parsley, haroset, lamb bone, horseradish, and orange to complete your Seder. Or, opt for Easter brunch for four ($100), with ham and gruyere quiche Lorraine, arugula, fennel, goat-cheese-and-hazelnut salad with shallots, housemade cinnamon rolls, rosemary potato gratin, and milk-chocolate Easter eggs; the meal also includes the ingredients for make-your-own-mimosas. Start with bake-at-home brie with roasted grapes and honey, followed by mesclun greens and cornbread croutons with spring herb buttermilk, then tender shoulder of lamb stuffed with spinach and feta accompanied by roasted baby zucchini and German butterball potatoes and carrot-cake cupcakes with cream cheese icing and decorative carrots for dessert.
