Here’s where you can play tennis right now

The sport is one that can still be played relatively safely in the pandemic era.

Two players spaced yards apart on opposite sides of a net? Yup, tennis is an inherently socially-distanced activity we can get behind. Channel your inner Roger or Serena at these indoor and outdoor public and private courts.

Bready Park Indoor Tennis Center at Herndon Community Center

Located adjacent to the center, the Bready Park Indoor Tennis Center features three covered tennis courts available throughout the late fall, winter and early spring. Rates for a 90-minute block run from $38-$54 depending on resident status and day/time; the center is open Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Sunday 7 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. // 814 Ferndale Ave., Herndon

Burke Racquet and Swim

The Burke facility features five indoor tennis courts and one racquetball court with state-of-the-art lighting, Latexite-cushioned surfaces and 40-foot high ceilings. Offerings included beginning to advanced lessons of instructional to aerobic tennis, private and class lessons and team practices. Call for pricing and hours. // 6001 Burke Commons Road, Burke

Fairfax Racquet Club

Membership options start at $47/month; the club is open 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, call for more details. // 9860 Fairfax Blvd., Fairfax,

McLean Sport and Health

The facility also includes Prince’s Court, one of 11 court tennis clubs in the United States and part of the International Real Tennis Professionals Association (IRTPA), where you can book a crash course in tennis for $15 per person. Check the website or call or more information on tennis offerings. // 1800 Old Meadow Road, McLean

Montclair Tennis Club

Prince William County’s first tennis club has seven hard courts and two clay courts that host pickup matches, lessons and league play. Hamlet Tennis Club

You do not need to be a member of the Hamlet Swim and Tennis Club to participate in the tennis programs. There are three hard surface courts with a hitting wall, wind screens and court dividers along with two hydra-blend surface soft clay courts. Check the website for offerings and hours. // 8209 Dunsinane Court, McLean

Arlington County Tennis Courts

A variety of parks in the county let you reserve outdoor courts either by email, phone or online that are lit for nighttime play.
