Slowly but surely, events are beginning to sprout up across the region again, albeit with safety measures in place as COVID-19 still poses a threat to public safety. For those comfortable with socially distanced, outdoor events, put this on your calendar: the Arlington Festival of the Arts.
Being held Labor Day weekend, from Saturday, Sept. 5 to Sunday, Sept. 6 (10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days), the free event, which was originally scheduled for April, will feature multiple displays of handmade fine art.
“Art has been used for thousands of years as a way to bring people together, and art festivals are the pinnacle of that goal,” says Festival of the Arts Producer Howard Alan in a recent press release. “This has been a trying time for artists around the world, and their appreciators, because nothing beats being able to see the creation in person, speak to the artists about their inspiration and do it while enjoying an outdoor stroll. Still, art is nothing if not inventive, and we have been able to craft creative solutions to bring art back to the people, without compromising safety.”
Artwork from local and national artists will showcase multiple mediums including glass, mixed media, paintings, jewelry and pottery. All artwork was selected by an independent panel of expert judges from hundreds of applicants.
During the festival, all attendees must wear a mask upon entering the festival (with the exception of children ages 2 and under); entrances and exits will be monitored for one-way traffic; the number of visitors attending at a time will be regulated; social distancing will be required; and guests are asked to utilize hand-washing and sanitizing stations on a regular basis.
