Wolf Trap to offer virtual Wolf Trap Sessions in place of summer performances

The newly announced concept will include pre-recorded streaming performances for performing arts enthusiasts of all ages, keeping locals entertained all summer long.

By Jess Feldman July 1, 2020 at 2:05 pm

On June 30, performing arts venue Wolf Trap announced the launch of a pre-recorded streaming concept under the banner of Wolf Trap Sessions, in response to canceling all in-person performances for the rest of the 2020 summer season to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Wolf Trap Sessions will give performing arts enthusiasts of all ages something to talk about, as available streaming performances include singalongs for the family, tunes from classic operas like Romeo and Juliet and acoustic jam sessions with local artists of the DMV.

The programming is split into three categories: Park Pop-Ups, UNTRAPPED Online and Field Trip Fridays, all of which have something unique to offer at-home viewers. Park Pop-Ups features performances by fan-favorite artists of the DMV, including the U.S. Marine Band’s Free Country Acoustic Quartet, scheduled to stream on Saturday, July 4 at 4 p.m.

For those seeking more, UNTRAPPED Online brings back recordings of past productions, as well as newly recorded shows from this summer’s studio artists. And, the final offering, Field Trip Fridays, is curated specifically for Northern Virginia kiddos, consisting of family-friendly, pre-recorded performances, as well as activity guides and in-depth resources for parents.

Currently, there are two programs streaming: Sights and Sounds of African Music as part of Field Trip Fridays and The Juniper Tree as part of Opera UNTRAPPED Online. To see everything else Wolf Trap Sessions has to offer this summer, check out the organization’s calendar.
