In the wake of recent protests continuing throughout the nation in response to police brutality, many businesses and residents in Northern Virginia are wondering how they can support the movement. Fairfax-based storytelling company Better Said Than Done has responded by amplifying Black voices through an upcoming event, set to be held in July.
The storytelling show, titled Black Stories Matter, will be held virtually, with all proceeds benefiting Black Lives Matter DC. Being hosted virtually via Zoom on Friday, July 10 at 9 p.m., the show will be directed and emceed by Nick Baskerville, a DMV native and Better Said Than Done regular.
Featured storytellers will include Sheila Arnold, Calvin S. Cato, Angie Chatman, Jacoby Cochran, Geoff Jackson, Lynne Jordan, Ria Spencer and Donna Washington, who will all be joining from across the country to share their personal stories about what it means to be Black in America.
Better Said Than Done is asking audience members to pay what they can when they register for the event, with a sliding scale starting as low as $5, and a suggested contribution of $25 or more. The show will be broadcasted live, so the audience is strongly encouraged to “arrive” to the Zoom meeting on time to watch the storytellers perform. (Don’t worry though; no one will be able to see you, so pajamas and a makeup-free look are appropriate.)
