The sun is shining in Northern Virginia, yet many parks and rec facilities remain closed throughout the region as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. That’s not stopping the Fairfax County Park Authority from keeping local residents entertained though, as its Virtual Exploration Center is full of resources and activities focusing on health, connection and education.
Whether you’re a youngster or an adult, the resource center has something for everyone, focusing on a variety of the county’s park grounds. The Colvin Run Activity Book, for example, serves as a guide for “mini-millers” ages 5 through 12, giving them the chance to learn some history of the grounds, try out a crossword puzzle with key milling terms and take part in scavenger hunts that are doable from the backyard.
When scrolling through the resource center, you’ll find three main sections: health and wellness, science and nature, and culture and history. Within each section, you’ll discover educational YouTube videos of park rangers and staff members, guides to discovering species on your own property, activity planners to ensure you get the proper dose of daily exercise and much more.
